I used to love blutwurst - yes, that's right, blood sausage. Haven't tried it lately, and it may taste very different: my tongue has completely turned against a teenage love of Braunschweiger i.e. liverwurst. (Why?)

Well, blutwurst is much, much more than a gross-out sandwich meat:

Chris McCabe, 70, said he got trapped after the freezer door in his shop in Totnes, Devon, blew shut behind him.

Stranded in temperatures of -20C (-4F), with the door-release button frozen shut, he said he used the 1.5kg (3.3lbs) sausage as a battering ram on the release mechanism.

Mr McCabe said: "No-one could hear me banging. Black pudding saved my life."

What's an old (or current) favorite food of yours that your friends find weird?

Well of course it did, Mr McCabe.

(story: My German mother loves the Limberger branch of the cheeses - 'The runnier, the better' quoth she. When we visited a delicatessen what they call 'Amish country' in Ohio, she would buy her horrible cheese and put it in the trunk of the car alone. When we returned home, the rest of the family would go inside, Mom would remove the cheese and put it in the refrigerator, to consume it alone when we were out of the house.)
