Still of use?

Postby Berachiah » Sat Dec 09, 2017 11:25 am

Hi folks,

You may or may not remember me. I'm the guy whose server this forum is hosted on. I was just checking back in to see if this forum was still of value to anyone or if I should just take it down? If y'all would like this forum kept up, I have no problem doing so, but if nobody's using it I'm not sure I see the point in keeping it around.

Thanks,

-Bob

I don't know about others, but I developed what amounts to a book, one posting at a time. It's still all there, apparently. Al 20k+ words and illustrations, with a linked table of contents. It was actually a blessing not having a heavily trafficked forum so that I did not have to respond to a bunch of "junk" comments.

There are few here, but the intellectual level seems to me at least to be pretty good.

I would miss this forum. I do check it nearly every day.

Just out of curiosity, is there a way of checking on the number of non-registered "lurkers" who access this forum?

I stop in regularly to see if there is any action. Often there's nothing happening for days.

Like Kent and David, I check in here on occasion just to see what's up.

Maybe I'll start a thread about some scintillating topic that will bring out all those erudite members who in the past have posted with wit, verve and acumen!

But not this week. Between the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, I'm plumb tuckered out … :(
And the king will say to them in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.’

I think that's what happens when you eat too much plum pudding.

Or when you stick in your thumb and pull out a plum (or perhaps a plumb bob).

David, I was pretty hand with a plumb back in my days as a carpenter …

It's been almost two weeks since the last post.

I think if we go two to four weeks with no activity, let's shut it down. :bye:

I would recommend that you work on archiving that content.

In fact, archiving this entire forum would be a good idea, it seems to me. Put it in some kind of static HTML format.

I hate to say it, but I think it's time.

I've already accumulated all the essential parts, edited considering the posted responses, into an offline version; which itself has undergone several revisions and enhancements. The thing is, being the sort of manuscript that it is, every so often additional "enhancements" come to mind. For instance, right now i'm mulling over expressing a person's Particular Judgment in terms of an ordered 6- or 9-tuple, with each coordinate having both real and imaginary components. After all, those who damn themselves definitively separate themselves from God, Who is Truth itself and truth is synonymous with reality - this leaving the damned with only the imaginary parts, presumably from their own sin-degraded imaginations. Contrarily, the saved have the ultimate source of reality, the Beatific Vision, as well as "imaginariness".

There are, of course, all of the other postings; but I have no idea of how to tolerably download that much content.

BTW, has new registration been turned off? I suspect that one could get a small flood of new participants by posting this board's availability over at https://forums.catholic.com/
