'Wilbur', RIP

'Wilbur', RIP

Alan Young died May 19th. He had a long career, including a popular radio show in the last half of the '40s, but most will know him as 'Wilbur', the owner of Mr Ed the talking horse on the old TV show:

I didn't know he was English, or at least born there (born Angus Young) and lived in Scotland for a while, and had always thought his accent in the classic old The Time Machine was a bit fake.

*Variety*, a paper geared to professionals, had one amusing side-comment about his later career, like that of a lot of old hoofers in the 1980s:

the obligatory stop on Murder, She Wrote

That is sad. As a little boy I used to enjoy Mr Ed.

I will certainly pray for the repose of his soul.
