Corpus Christi music that isn't Franck

Corpus Christi music that isn't Franck

Any good ideas for solo vocal - or instrumental - music for Corpus Christi? Yes, everybody loves Cesar Franck's setting of 'Panis Angelicus', but, well, Franckly I'm tired of that warhorse. I used to sing anthems at local Reformed churches, and had a Schirmer book full of that Romantic era stuff.

I stumbled across this lovely little setting by Francesco Gasparini, from the generation before Bach: http://imslp.nl/imglnks/usimg/7/78/IMSLP171160-WIMA.e9d7-PanisAngelicus.pdf Unfortunately the modern transcriber didn't suggest any chords, or even figured bass, but it's a typical 'Italian' style with no harmonic surprises.

Here is a nice rendition of it: https://www.youfixittube.com/watch?v=x3RVvOBQYZw

Though not a solo vocal - I find it a noteworthy rendering (Panis Angelicus/Louis Lambillotte).

James,

Thanks for the links. I also have an eye on 'Ave verum corpus'. If I can scrape a few singers together I will do a very simple *a capella* harmonization of the Lambillot 'Panis angelicus'.

James,

Yes indeed. Anything by Byrd is the word.
