Excuses and double standards?

Postby lasaxman » Mon Aug 20, 2018 2:41 am

It seems like whenever there is a scandal involving clergy I hear the following:

"These are holy men who are being attacked by demons. We should understand, forgive and pray for them."

On the other hand, when it is people outside the church committing such acts (especially non-Christians), it is, "They are evil. Lock them up and throw away the key".

Double standard?

I think you really need to go on a case by case basis. There are almost certainly clerics who have yielded to and subscribe to the evil one. Or (and nearly as bad) don't actually believe in anything except "what's in it for me?".

We can only judge what's in the external forum and levy civil punishment accordingly. God will handle the internal forum and unerringly.

Kent,

Do you disagree that holy priests are being attacked by demons?

Of course not. St. Pio was repeatedly assailed by demons. He and other holy priests do not yield to them. However there are clearly are less (much) than holy clergy who do yield, and thus sin.

We must distinguish, but we can only in the external forum.

So then, Satan and his demons cannot be blamed for the sins of the clergy?

(I hope you are not trying to be a troll here.)

I'm sure there is plenty of "blame" (sin) to "go around". Each case is doubtlessly different.
