How to access the COL Forum Archives

Postby Kardinal » Mon Jul 01, 2013 3:50 pm

If you need to reference something on (some) version of the forum, you can use this link:

http://web.archive.org/web/201208261545 ... /index.php?

Unfortunately, the copy is pretty old (about a year), but it does have a lot of the old data. I have not copied everything over that I could simply because I don't know how long this forum will be used, and I didn't want to sink enormous time into it.

Jeff,

I think the barebones format works for a start, and it can be build upon as this place progresses. The key sections are already in place and it gives our people a chance to post topics that the current problems with COL have prevented them from doing so.

You are very kind, Val.

Bob Adams did most of the work, honestly. But you might be surprised how little work it is. It's not quite "click install and hit Next a lot", but it's not too vastly much more than that. You just have to know what you're doing.

What impresses me about Bob is that he's 100% self-taught. At least I've had some training.

How do you search in the archive forum? At the very top of my screen there is a search bar, but I don't get any results from any search terms. :?

You can't really. To search, I would do this..

Go to Google. Type in

site:forum.catholic.org whatever you want to search on

For any link you get, click that little down arrow and select "cached". That's how I got to that reference for Dean I made in the other thread.

I get this http://forum.catholic.org/viewtopic.php ... 6bd813563b even after I click on the little arrow. Rats.
(Man, those little green pokemons are starting to annoy me).

I am mobile so this is the best picture I could find. But the one next to the "cached" menu below.

This might be better.

Jeff,

Just tried. Doesn't work. Never mind.

(Perhaps Providence is warning me not to discuss the topic.)

I have nothing germane to add to this thread.

I just thought it looked lonely and abandoned, having been ignored now for a whole year come next Tuesday … :(

It has now been over a year since Jeff and Bob started this forum to replace the original COL, gone probably forever.

We appreciate your efforts and the willingness of many of the old moderators to assume that responsibility here.

JIm,

I'm glad you did refresh this thread as it reminds me that we have that capability.

On That note, I heard from Tony L yesterday he is well but wondering what happened to the COL Forum. I explained and invited him here.

That's good to hear. I hope he takes you up on the offer.

Tony has much wisdom — and even more compassion …

I also think, since it's been a year, it's time for me to put up the copy of the forum I have from 2012. Something like at archive.catholicoffline.org.

Need to talk to Bob about that...

Val,

Here, but puzzled how to write on this forum. Also, using "Whynot" as username.

BTW, thanks for the good thought.
